Disgraced Lord Ahmed Blames ‘Zionist Lobby’ for Press TV ban
Disgraced politician Lord Ahmed has denounced the “Zionist lobby” as responsible for the banning of Iranian propaganda station Press TV from the airwaves. According to Press TV, Ahmed told the the Iranian-funded television station that:
“Freedom of speech, and freedom of expression and freedom of media should be universal and it’s very unfortunate that the Zionist lobby does not like Press TV and many of the other outlets of Iran and that’s why, the pressure is so much that they need to be switched off.”
Last year, Lord Ahmed was suspended from the Labour Party after he claimed on Pakistani television that he was jailed in 2008 because of pressure on the courts from Jews “who own newspapers and TV channels”. He also claimed that the judge in the 2008 case was appointed to his position after he helped a “Jewish colleague” of Blair during an important case.
Press TV is funded by the Iranian Government, and has a long history of blaming “Jews”, the “Jewish lobby” and the “Jewish mafia” for world troubles.
In 2011 Ofcom censured the channel after it broadcast a forced confession from a Newsweek journalist Maziar Bahari detained in an Iranian jail. Press TV interviewed Bahari while an interrogator uggested questions from behind a curtain.
In 2012, Press TV published a flattering profile of George Galloway on its website in December 2012, stating: “In a world controlled by pro JewishAmerican media, George Galloway has successfully managed to provide an alternative view unmatched by any other Western politician. How does he do it?”
Press TV and Lord Ahmed are a perfect match. In 2005, Ahmed hosted a book launch in the House of Lords for a neo-Nazi activist who frequently uses anti-Semitic language in his work. Russian-born Israel Shamir claimed that blood libels against the Jews were in fact true and that all political parties were Zionist infiltrated.
In 2009, Ahmed, along with a number of extremist British Islamists, signed a letter praising the anti-Jewish Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan after he walked out of a debate with President Shimon Peres at the Davos Conference in Switzerland.
In November 2012 he claimed the attempted murder of Malala Yousafzai was carried out by the Pakistani Government as part of an effort to discredit the Taliban.
Ahmed has also given a lobby pass to a representative of MEMO, the pro-Hamas group. He has participated in trips to meet with Hamas leader Ahmad Bahar, a senior Hamas terrorist who has called for the killing of Jews worldwide.
Ahmed booked a room in the Lords for the antisemitic hate preacher, Raed Salah, met with the dead Al Qaeda fundraiser, Abu Rideh and campaigned for the admission of the banned hate preacher, Zakir Naik (who calls for the killing of homosexuals).
