Interpal’s Miles of Smiles Convoy Arrives in Gaza
On 20 April 2014, British charity and US-designated terrorist entity Interpal arrived in Gaza as part of its twenty-sixth “Miles of Smiles” convoy, led by convoy coordinator Rashad al-Baz, where they received a warm welcome from senior Hamas officials.
Rashad al-Baz is a Dutch Muslim Brotherhood activist with links to such terrorist organisations as Hamas, the Hofstad Network, and possibly al-Qaeda. Baz, a former board member of the League of the Islamic Community in the Netherlands (LIGN) – which Dutch intelligence regards as the Muslim Brotherhood’s Netherlands branch – is currently the Treasurer of the Jerusalem Foundation, which is believed to be the direct successor of the al-Aqsa Foundation, of which Baz was also a Director.
The al-Aqsa Foundation’s assets were frozen in 2003 by Dutch authorities, who accused the organisation of collecting money for Hamas. Its successor, the Jerusalem Foundation, has worked with the Turkish IHH, whose offices have been raided by Turkish counter-terror police for allegedly arming al-Qaeda in Syria. Besides these organisational links to terrorist groups, Rashad al-Baz is also believed by Dutch intelligence to have personal connections with the Hofstad Network, which was responsible for the murder to Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh in 2004.
