Muslim Aid

Muslim Aid

Muslim Aid, a leading British Muslim charity, was established by activists from Jamaat-e-Islami, including Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin, the British Muslim community leader recently convicted for his role in the killing of teachers and intellectuals during the 1971 Liberation War in Bangladesh. Muslim Aid is also believed to be a leading member of the Union of Good.[1]

One of Muslim Aid’s trustees, Suhaib Hasan, is on the board of the European Council for Fatwa and Research,[2] whose president is global Muslim Brotherhood leader Yusuf al-Qaradawi.[3] Former Muslim Aid trustees include the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Hani el-Banna, the founder of Islamic Relief Worldwide; and the late Khadem al-Rawi, who was director of the European Institute for Human Sciences, the imam-training facility of the Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe (FIOE).[4] The FIOE has been identified by German intelligence as a Muslim Brotherhood front.[5]

In 2014, Muslim Aid organised a speaking tour with a number of extremist preachers on the subject of the “Day of Resurrection”.[6] One such speaker was Zahir Mahmood, one of Britain’s leading hate preachers, who believes that, “Hamas are not terrorists; they’re freedom fighters, they’re defending their country”.[7] Mahmood also urges Muslims to refrain from integrating into Western society, and has condemned those who “give preference to [their] nationality over [their] Islamic identity”.[8] Abdul Qayyum, Chief Imam of the East London Mosque, was invited to speak alongside Zahir Mahmood. Qayyum is reportedly a signatory to the Istanbul Declaration, which calls for terrorist attacks on British troops and Jewish communities around the world.[9]

A number of commentators have previously voiced concern about Muslim Aid’s connections. In 2010, The Telegraph reported that Muslim Aid admitted to funding two Palestinian charities that belonged to the terror groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad, including £13,998 to the al-Ihsan Charitable Society, designated by the US government as a “sponsor of terrorism”.[10]
