Muslim Public Affairs Committee
The Muslim Public Affairs Committee UK (MPACUK) – a self-defined “Muslim civil liberties group” – is listed by the National Union of Students (NUS) as one of five proscribed hate groups (the other four are the BNP, EDL, Hizb ut-Tahrir and Al-Muhajiroun).
The use of ‘Zionist’ as a replacement for ‘Jewish’ is common on the MPACUK website. The CST submitted evidence that in one explicit case of this the Talmud, a Jewish religious text written many centuries ago, was described as a “Zionist holy book”. The website also posed the question: “Is this the most Powerful and Racist book in the world?!” MPACUK has also articulated Jewish conspiracy theories through the language of Zionism describing it as an “octopus that now penetrates every western nation and pushes it to start world war three upon Muslims” and warning that “Any man who knows anything of Zionists, knows that they will not stop until the Muslims ‘followed by mankind’ are dead or enslaved.
MPACUK is known to reproduce anti-Semitic material from neo-Nazi websites; has written on its Facebook page that Jews should “take your Holocaust, roll it up nice and tight, then shove up your (be creative);” and is fond of telling Muslims that they are in imminent danger of becoming the victims of genocide. The group describes its philosophy in the following terms:
MPAC’s world view is simple. We are at War. MPAC[UK] believes every Muslim man woman and child is a target in that War. And we believe that it is FARD [obligatory] upon every capable Adult to defend the Ummah [worldwide Muslim community]. We also adopt the position that every Muslim who does not participate in that war is committing a crime against those they allow to be murdered, raped and persecuted and against his or her Lord.
In this “war,” MPACUK upholds the Taliban and Hamas as exemplars. The group describes the Taliban as “highly patriotic” men who “sacrifice their lives in the interests of Pakistan.” Of Hamas, MPACUK co-founder and spokesman Asghar Bukhari has said, “Any Muslim who fights against Israel and dies is a martyr and will be granted paradise.”
In 2006, Bukhari made headlines when it emerged that he had given money to Holocaust denier David Irving, whom Bukhari claimed had “suffered … in trying to expose certain falsehoods perpetrated by the Jews.”
