Three Faiths Forum ‘ParliaMentee’ Supports Intifada and Homophobic/Anti-Semitic Speaker

Three Faiths Forum ‘ParliaMentee’ Supports Intifada and Homophobic/Anti-Semitic Speaker

The Three Faiths Forum, the interfaith organisation, was today criticised for taking on Nadia Marques De Carvalho, a leading member of the radical, pro-Hamas London School of Economics Palestine Society, in the organisation’s ‘ParliaMentor’ programme.

Carvalho has defended the extremist hate preacher Raed Salah on her twitter feed, describing his message as “words of wisdom”. Salah stated in an Ha’aretz interview in 2002 that homosexuality is a ‘great crime’, and has accused Jews of using children’s blood to bake bread[2]. In 2001, Salah claimed that no Jews were at work in the World Trade Centre on September 11[3].

Carvalho was partly responsible for inviting a number of hate speakers on behalf of the LSE Palestine Society, of which she is a committee member. Recent speakers include Abdel Bari Atwan, who has promised to “go to Trafalgar Square and dance with delight if the Iranian missiles strike Israel”; Ben White, who “understands” why some people are antisemitic; and Ahron Cohen of Neturei Karta, who has stated that the Holocaust victims “deserved it”[4].

Carvalho’s twitter feed reveals support for violent resistance, and calls to boycott companies such as Starbucks, whose owner Howard Shultz is Jewish.

Two examples from Carvalho’s twitter feed:

if i lost everything i had at the hands of israel, i would become fearless. most dangerous predator. palestine realise your strength.

Palestine, she dispossesses you, mocks your dignity, humiliates your worth, barters the truth, murders your men and rapes your being. fight.

Hasan Afzal, Director of StandforPeace, stated, “Time and time again, radical students who facilitate open bigotry are hijacking interfaith dialogue as a particularly odious method to propagate their message of hate. Whatever one’s position on the Arab-Israeli conflict, Carvalho is a student who calls for violence and who appears to support homophobic hate preachers such as Salah. Every aspect of her beliefs conflicts with the interfaith values that the Three Faiths Forum promises to espouse.”
